This photograph was taken during a trip to northern France for the 80th anniversary of D-Day, while exploring the coast and the historic towns of Normandy and Brittany.
Grand Bé sits just a few hundred meters from the ramparts of Saint-Malo and can only be reached on foot when the tide is low. The island is perhaps best known as the final resting place of François-René de Chateaubriand, the French Romantic writer who was born in Saint-Malo. His tomb sits facing the sea, overlooking the coastline he knew from childhood.
The island also formed part of Saint-Malo's historic coastal defenses, with fortifications built there in the 17th century.
