I was sitting on the ramparts overlooking Grand Bé when I turned my attention back toward the city. From above, I became fascinated by the small details—the rows of windows, chimneys, rooftops, and the way each building seems to press closely against the next.
Saint-Malo has an almost monolithic quality from this vantage point. The houses seem to grow out of the same piece of stone, packed tightly together within the fortified walls. Beneath the rooftops is a city shaped by centuries of maritime history, war, rebuilding, and life along the Breton coast.
This photograph is less about a single landmark and more about the character of the town itself: its textures, repetition, and the beautiful density of its historic streets.
